The Shell Corporation – F*cked

“I want to shout it from the rooftops of the world, but I can’t breathe with their hands wrapped around my throat”, a lyric from The Shell Corporation’s ‘Rooftops’ off of their new album “Fucked”.

A lot for a first sentence, I know. This was my first lyric that I heard of The Shell Corporation and is one that resonates with me, as I’m sure it does many others. This is what I believe the goal of the band is: to make the world a little less scary. How can it be their goal if the lyric is about being choked by it?

Music unites people in so many different ways and I’m sure you’re tired reading about that line, so I’ll stop there. However cliche it might sound, The Shell Corporation makes music to connect with people in their darkest times and help lift them up. “F*cked” as a whole album is fiercely diverse in lyrics, but consistent in sound. It addresses breakups, growing up, feeling hopeless and lost, but most of all it screams a call to action.

The interpretation of this call is truly up to the listener. Whether it’s a reason to get up or a reason to give the whole world a middle finger, The Shell Corporation’s new album, “F*cked” is a prime example of excellent punk doing it’s duty: empowering people everywhere.
This is the band’s 7th release, now on La Escalera Records (U.S.) and Gunner Records (Europe). You will not be disappointed. The band seems to be heavily influenced by political punk pioneers Anti-Flag! So if you’re ready to storm the walls, be sure to download this record first!

Be sure to preorder the album here, http://laescaleradistro.com/ for US and Europe, http://shop.gunnerrecords.com/ . While you’re there pick up some merch.

The Two-Fifties – Ride With Me

Hailing from Denver the Two-Fifties recently released , “Ride With Me”.  Per their Facebook page they consider themselves, “We are a ROCK band influenced by punk, grunge, mental, hard rock, and pop”. I couldn’t agree more after this album. I can hear the sounds of so many different bands it would be impossible to categorize the band as simply rock or punk. Let’s start with, “Story Of My Life”, not a cover of Social Distortion’s. This track is a nice segway into the bluesy rock, surf punk, reminiscent of The Butthole Surfers, and Social D.

Next up is the song, “Alcohol”. This song is definitely something we can all relate to. It has a dark overtone, with almost an industrial sound with a mix of hardcore punk. It seems as the album almost has a theme as the next song is, Rock N Roll Girl. A bittersweet love or anti love song. Now follows, “LAC”. I loved this song and it’s dark hardcore edge.

“Suspect” the next track sounds  like it’s straight from a Dead Kennedy’s album . I really loved the drums and guitar riff on this track. Next up, “Stranger Danger”. A warning to the listener, you’re gonna a have a great time with the song writer, but you might not live  to tell the tale. Great track, a good slower tune with some deep riffs. “Who Do You Think You Are”, again with this track we hear some classic influences a little

Nirvana or even the Melvins. Also reminded me a bit of the Dead Boys, slowed down a little.  Time to get dark with, “Can’t Have Everything”.  Dimebag Darrel has been reborn! Ok not so much,  but I felt this song was a bit Pantera like with a Black Flag mix.

Overall this album kicks serious ass. I can’t wait to get my hands on a vinyl copy if there is one released!

The Reuters- E.P.

Can someone say Killing Joke  meets the Doors?  I recently checked out the The REUTERS new EP, simply titled, E.P.  The album contains 5 new songs based on late 1970’s material.  You’ll be wanting this record in a vinyl format right away. Per the band’s bandcamp only 200 copies of the record have been pressed. In fact it may already be too late. So make sure you try and pick it up soon.

As the first track loaded up, Ambient Ambulance. I had to check my phone to make sure it wasn’t playing The Cramps, Killing Joke, or The Damned.

I really enjoyed the organ in the background of Schmerzhaft (Painful in English). The song is definitely heartfelt and deep. And yes the song is in Danish, but still easy to sing along with. No Friend of Mine is by far the winner on the EP. A great tune with some melodic punk mixed with some psychedelic background.  I will be also picking up their album prior to E.P., called, “We  Are From Hu”. As I think The REUTERS have got me hooked!

Behind Deadlines- Status Quo

The Philadelphia boys’s released Status Quo back in 2016.  From the opening track Biochemistry to last, Drinking To Brazil. This album is filled with happy ska tunes mixed with melodic punk. My first thoughts were something in between Reel Big Fish and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. This is great album for questioning personal relationships. My favorite song by far is “Six Months”. The one thing I really enjoyed was the tempo changes between the different tracks.  I plan on picking up anything I can from this band!
