It was recently announced Blink 182 and Lil Wayne will be visiting Denver. Don’t get me wrong mash up shows are always fun, but this one is sickening. Sometimes when we see these lineups our brain suffers massive brain damage.  In order to repair that mental abuse one must be like Uncle Rico and hop into the time machine.

Let’s go back to the 80s when hardcore punk was ready to disturb the normies. The good news is we don’t need a time machine. Philly’s the Barren Mary’s are ready to drop their 3rd studio LP on 5/24/2019 via Violated Records (CD Release), Suicide Bong Tapes (Cassette Tape Release) and Frankensense Records.

“Wired Wrong”, intros in with “Good Time”. That familiar feeling of fast punk in your face returns. The second track, “It’s Gonna Suck”, tops out at a whopping 1:34. All of my favorite songs tend to be less than 2 minutes. I love the heavy bass, fast progression and killer drums. Next up is “Roaches and Fleas”. The killer guitar intro nails this track. So far I’m digging the simplicity on this album.

“Guantanamo Bay Beach Party”, this track has somewhat of a Ramones core sound. Again the heavy bass line really kicks it off. The combination of killer drums, awesome vocals and catchy lyrics make this my personal favorite of the album. “Hero”, this one is like a boot to face. Seriously keep the sick out of the pit on this track.

“On The Couch” is up next and it’s one kick ass song. This one is for all of us that have/had a house guest that never leaves. Just get the fuck out already! Rob, where’s my weed? Lyrically it’s hilarious. “Fascists”, bring the speed back into the fold. I am not sure if this is a jab at liberal infighting, but the overall sound is wicked. This band surely knows how to write some great music.

“I Wanna Be Unhealthy, Baby” follows and slows down the pace a little. It sends the sound back to a more Queers like sound, yet still has a real guttural feel. The grand pauses leave the listener wanting more. After, listening to “Perri’s Pizza” I really want some pizza. Did Perri’s pay for this jingle? “I Come From The Swamp”, is the last song on the record. Another track with strong emphasis on bass.

Personally I think I just found a new favorite band. Pardon me while I go download their discography. Haha in all seriousness. The Barren Marys have poured some blood, sweat and PBRs into, “Wired Wrong”. This record has heart and I don’t think Blink 182 or the likes of them (Fall Out Boy) will ever take that shit away.
