Florida punks, Death Lottery released their record, “EP II” back on 9/11/2018. Upon first listen to the first track it will get your head bobbing. This entire record, a bit short, but that’s an EP, will get your body moving. The one aspect I truly like is the infusion of classic punk, with the almost Stooges like sound.

Some of my favorites songs on the record are, ‘Wolf’s Bud’, ‘Tequila w/ Sammy Hagar’ and ‘Future Caveperson’. Death Lottery may not be treading new water, but they are breathing life back into a genre punk has seemed to forgotten. I personally recommend picking up the vinyl for a pure sound. Please contact the band via their social media pages for information on picking up a copy.

Tracks: Per Bandcamp

  1. Death Lottery – 12th Meal (Moser’s Lament)
  2. Death Lottery – Jesus Does What He Wants
  3. Death Lottery – Wolf’s Bud
  4. Death Lottery – Tequila w/ Sammy Hagar
  5. Death Lottery – Future Caveperson

Yeah I started this off with saying, “Satan Is President”. I don’t think many would disagree with this statement. What’s the bright side to this shitty time in the United States? It’s the music! We have so many kick ass bands coming out and denouncing the ass hat in command. Take a look at all the great comps, songs, and etc. It would take me forever to try and list so many. This leads me to reintroduce Florida’s the Beat Obsolete.

We checked out the Beat Obsolete demo back during, “Small Label October”. I really enjoyed listening and creating that review. I’m happy to announce the Beat, not the English Beat are back now a brand new LP! The Florida based punks have put out 10 brand new tracks. Damn this one is wicked to say the least.

Some of my personal favorites off the new record are, Citywide Destruction, Civilized War, Hialeah Cowboy, Jesus On Acid, and Satan Is President. In fact Satan Is President needs a music video asap! Skatepunk fans this a new one for your collection!

Be sure to check out Beat Obsolete on A Jam Records!

Favorite Tracks: Punch a Nazi in the Face

The punk movement started as a knee jerk reaction to the social climate of the late 70’s. As society became more openly defiant, the music became a hard reflection. Today’s politics in America is fraught with open racism and a praise for the alt-right. Well, punk defiance is back and as hard as ever! The Longest Hall’s Release, Don’t Panic shows how that spirit is not dead. I can listen to Punk A Nazi in the Face on repeat.

This family three piece from Florida brings hard hitting sounds with a nice harmonizing component. It’s a fast paced ride from start to finish. You can hear the hard thrash influences in the guitar on the track, Upon Deaf Ears. Zac, Adam, and Dan are brothers that formed The Longest Hall in 2017 in Florida. They have been playing together for the last decade and this 13 track offering is the culmination.

You can catch them right now in Florida and we here at Colorado Punk Rock Army are hoping for a tour that includes us.

01-Modern Monarchs
02-Punch a Nazi in the Face
03-A Timely Message From Heaven
04-Enter Cludes

There’s no doubt that Donald Trump is the worst president this country has ever witnessed. From his racism and sexist ideals. To his promotion of the rich and powerful to his cabinet and the Supreme Court. To his social views and extreme world views. It seems since Obama left office. The US has become the laughing stock of the world.
One great thing has emerged since, the punk scene has responded and will not back down. You might say political punk never left, but I think maybe it was a little less angry for awhile there. Just look at the amazing bands writing songs about this country and it’s so called., “Leader”.

Here in Denver we have Cheap Perfume, Rotten Reputation, The Windermeres, The Unaccepted, and so many more, too many to name. This leads me to introduce Florida punks, Debt Neglector. This band is pissed off and their new EP is should join the ranks of other major political bands like, Bad Religion, Propaghandi and The Shell Corporation. So let’s get into the “Kids Are Pissed”.
The first track up is, “Scared Of The U.S.”. This track is politically charged and sets the scene for the rest of the EP. The lyrics will rope in right away. The drums and vocals are amazing on this one. The song talks of the country repeating the same mistakes over and over again.

42541784_2192812754329804_4031844980833124352_n

“It’s a shame and we’re to blame, whole goddamn world is scared of U.S. It’s not a game, we feel the same, Whole goddamn world is scared, We’re so scared of U.S.”
“Go Fund Yourself”, is up next. This is more a power punk anthem. Basically it’s telling the government to “Go Fund Yourself” and “Go Fuck Yourselves”. We get some catchy lyrics, with a wicked bass line. The screaming really adds to the song! This is by far my favorite on the record. In fact buy the vinyl for this one alone!

“Wrong Side”, comes in next with an anthem like chorus. You will be singing along quickly. This is followed up, by another personal favorite, “New White Roses”. There’s a great little guitar intro before the main beat kicks in. This song brings me back to my original point. If Donald Trump has done anything good for this country, its bring more and more political activists into the fold. People who are sick and tired, and now ready to stand with fist in air.

“R.P.F.O”, is up next and this one really hit my heart. It’s about the administration’s policy of immigrants to this country. How many domestic violence calls go unmade, because an immigrant is afraid to call the police? How many have died from simple colds and flus, because they were too afraid to seek medical assistance? This is NOT ok with me. This country was founded on the backs of immigrants and now we stop them for papers like the Nazis? Fuck that I say.

42603592_2192812757663137_9161761237799796736_n
Now sadly we are nearing the last track. “The Kids Are Pissed”. The song tells nothing, but the truth about the American political system and now the kids pissed off and ready to overthrow. The lines are catchy, and this song is extremely powerful. The combination of all creates this massive power sure to get you out into the streets.

“Make way, get out, cause they’ve had enough, Make way, Fuck off, Cause they’ve been through enough, Make way, Grow Up, cause they’ve had enough”.
It’s time to wrap this review up. Debt Neglector has joined the ranks of my personal favorite politically charged punk bands. With deep and powerful lyrics, anthem like and charged music. There is pure raw emotion in every song. So pick it up on 10/25/2018 here, http://debtneglector.com/.

Tracks:

  1. Scared Of U.S.
  2. Go Fund Yourself
  3. Wrong Side
  4. New White Roses

  6. The Kids Are Pissed

I’m officially calling October, “Small Record Labels Month” here at CPRA. We checked out some No Affiliation Records,  Lockjaw, and now A Jam Records. As stated many times in previous posts and reviews. We despise the major media corps and we are here to support the underground punk scene.  In celebration I reached out to Dave Santos with A Jam Records for comment regarding starting a small label.

“A Jam Records is a Florida based independent record label out of Miami/Orlando. Primarily focusing on punk and hardcore but open to the variety of today’s underground music. A Jam is devoted to the artist, music and the fans. The amount of good music out is overwhelming and music listeners deserve to hear it. A band’s creativity should never be pushed away because their lack of a certain fan base, or quantity of followers on their social media pages.

Our goal here at A Jam Records to artists/bands is that we want you to succeed, we want your songs to be heard, and we want to open the ears of listeners to new music! A little history on A Jam Records is that it is the proud working of Joe Koontz of Against All Authority and Dave Santos of Guajiro. Joe Koontz grew up in South Florida and is the guitarist/co-founder of Against All Authority.

Starting from basic beginnings in a garage to later having toured all over the states and the world with the success of multiple albums and a strong & loyal fan base, Joe with Against All Authority has had his fair share in the music industry. Joe has played in various other bands also along the way and continues to put out music. A Jam Records came about as a result of this.

33984639_238422926740216_2458708437240905728_o

The first release on A Jam Records was Joe’s very own MC1, a garage-punk one man band. The album is the EP “City Wide Destruction”. Later he also released his follow up full length, the self titled “MC1”. In 2017, Dave Santos, who also played in some bands along with Joe (Guajiro, La Vieja Guardia, and Nobodys Hero), was working on a new project, Radio89. Dave had also grown up in the Miami scene and had been playing in various bands for years before moving to Central Florida.

With Radio89’s album ready, Dave came to Joe with hopes of releasing it on A Jam Records. In the process, they not only released the album but decided to work together and go full force into A Jam Records; making Joe and Dave’s vision a reality. We are expecting many good things in the year ahead. With new artists being added to the roster, and new albums being released; there is much growth coming up for us here at A Jam Records.” Wow that’s great back story!

Today let’s check out Florida punks, Beat Obsolete who are on A Jam Records. They released a couple of singles back on 4/30/2018. Both are NYP on Bandcamp right now! On my first listen, “Civilized War”, will definitely perk your ears, starting with the opening bass line. This is also an Anti Trump so so they already get kudos from us! This track has a harcore punk sound, with slight almost metal undertone. All the instruments on this one are killer!

“Havana Sonic Attack”, this one has an almost Strung Out sound to it. The progressions are fast and in your face. Sadly this is all we really have to listen currently. I’m really excited to hear more for this band! Both songs are laden with great musicianship. Word from a close source to CPRA has stated an album release is slated for the future.

Be sure to check out Beat Obsolete on A Jam Records!

Favorite Tracks: City Wide Destruction, Drop The Bomb, Crash Like Thunder, Runnin On Hate

Sounds Like: Stray Cats, Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, too many genres to pin down an exact influence

Being a one person band 100 years ago meant, playing a bunch of different instruments at the same time. They were heavy and well the sound of course was always lacking. There were really more like a carnival act, and not something to really take seriously. Fortunately for us the times have changed. Due to the advances in technology one person can potentially play a bunch of different instruments and track them together.

So let’s check out this one man band phenom that is, MC1. MC1 recently put out his new ep, “City Wide Destruction” on 4/28/2018. My first thought upon listening was wow! Each song sounds dramatically different from each other. I tried really hard to nail MC1 down to one genre. I’m gonna say that’s just impossible. I hear goth, industrial, punk, rock, rockabilly and etc. That’s what really makes “City Wide Destruction” so much fun to listen to!

My favorite song by far is “City Wide Destruction”, and coming in second is “Drop The Bomb”. Be sure to check on MC1 and A Jam Records

No-Real-Hero---The-Forest

I have a punk playlist for the gym years old. Sometimes extra motivation is needed and the new E.P. from No Real Hero is just that.  Great driving tempo and catchy lyrics to get you going. They are a four piece made up of ex members of 69 Solution and Lobotomie Politique.  Awesome Canadian export that has all the right stuff to join the likes of Propaghandi.

  1. Opening
  2. Comfort in Sorrow
  3. Broken Water
