Just in time for the most capitalistic of all holidays, The Jasons and Black Russians bring us a split full of bad tidings and fear. The tension between the two factions intensified towards the release date, with each side demanding allegiance. I feel like Hasselhoff is standing on a wall somewhere, just waiting to herald the huddled masses with whatever shite he sings. I don’t know. I was 6.
The 7” has four songs, the CD has two bonus songs, each limited to 500.

A-Side / The Jasons
Kill a Commie for Mommy
A Blaze in the Soviet Sky
Kill a Commie for Mommy: filtered back up vocals and interesting guitar patterns.
Red Dawnna: a distorted sample of Ritchie Valens’ “Oh Donna” explodes into girl-problem vocals. The instantly recognizable bass line directly transported me to the 90’s with memories of MxPx’s own cover of “Oh Donna”. I want to go buy some JNCOs.
A Blaze in the Soviet Sky: scathing, sneering delivery, graphic lyrics and a ferocious bass line that lingers in your head like a manifesto.

Kill the Jasons
Red Blooded Soviet Punk Rock
Kill the Jasons: cheery song about killing mongoloids.
Invasion USA: “your freedom don’t mean shit” feels eerily appropriate given the current pandemic situation we are collectively experiencing.
Red Blooded Soviet Punk Rock: absolutely dirty guitar solo over the bridge, this is a skippy love ballad.
Whether you’re into Ramones-inspired Horror Pop Punk, talking shit, or hockey, here’s a fun and fast addition to your pop-punk collection. Find the split on Mom’s Basement Webstore.

The first track is indeed, “In Your Face”. It has a kick ass Tommy Ramone style beat. The track is lyrically catchy. It’s fun with an old school throwback sound. The next song is “She’s A Cannibal”. This song slides to the horror punk side, but retains that fun Ramonescore beat. This is my favorite track on the record. The 3rd track up is “Boy With A Six Pack”. This song is heavy on bass and speaks on the dangers of adolescent alcoholism. It’s quite catchy! The final track is “Teddy”. This track has great bass, drums and extremely catchy chorus.
In conclusion “In Your Face” by Radio Blast is a short and in your face blast of fun. Ramonescore fans will dig this record. Personally, keep your eye out for another vinyl release. They are currently sold out, but I’m guessing another will come! You can check it out here, https://radioblast.bandcamp.com/album/in-your-face-ep

On May 19, 1951 a legend was born in Forest Hills, NY, NY. On what would be Joey Ramone’s 69th birthday, 20 bands got together to release a Ramonescore comp called “Ramonescore Brigade. Three awesome labels, Mom’s Basement Records/Mom’s Cellar Dweller, Waterslide Records, and Council Pop Records got together to release this kick ass record on vinyl. It is currently sold out so I suggest you hit them up and ask to make a purchase. Denver locals The Bricheros are also on the record with “Narcoleptic Youth”.

Right now more than ever. We need new music that not only helps us cope with this new world we are living in, but music that makes us happy. It seems everyday we get more and more bad news. Last week my favorite local venue, 3 Kings announced they were closing for good. My heart sank as I knew this would be a blow to the community. I needed a boost of serotonin and decided to check out JERK!’s new reissue of “Panic Attack”.
The reissue is brought to us by Mom’s Basement/Mom’s Celler Dweller Records. Mom’s is quickly becoming one of my favorite independent record labels. We seem to love just about everything they are releasing. So what about JERK!’s “Panic Attack” record makes me happy? So let’s take a look in track by track fashion. The first track is “Invader Of My Mind”. This is a wicked introduction to the record, The drums are powerful, chords ripping, and seems to bring light with a Ramonescore sound. If something or someone is in your mind and you want it out. Put on this track.
My personal favorite track is next up and called, “Suzy Is A Bonehead” this seems to be a spin on“Suzy Is A Headbanger” by the Ramones. This track is lyrically addicting, and fun to sing along with. My second favorite track follows, “Atomic”. Both of these tracks are simple in beats and measures, but call out to the youth inside me. When listening I feel transported back into the 90’s when my worst fear was failing math.

Another kick ass track is next with “Goodbye Sonia”. This is “Break Up Punk” at it’s finest. If there’s one thing most breakup songs leave out. Sometimes breaking up a relationship is indeed the best thing for everyone involved. So instead of crying along with Sarah Mclachlan’s, “Angel” put on this track and feel better about yourself. This track seems to have too many influences to mention.
“JERK!”, follows and is full of some awesome skatepunk. Everything goes into full on turbo mode. Personally I really wasn’t expecting hardcore since most of the tracks follow more of a Ramonescore sound. “In My Dreams” returns a melodic more feel. This is an optimistic love song with some fantastic bass and guitar lines. “I Killed The Prom Queen” is next and the theme is from the Halloween movie series. This track cracks me up, yet kicks ass. “I killed the prom queen, she was no Jaime Curtis, I stabbed her in the back”. The guitar lines are amazing.
Josh’s vocals remind me of the legendary Joe Queer on this one. “Hey Bud Let’s Party” follows and it reminds of the Ramones track, “Rock N Roll Highschool”. This track will be my theme when we can finally break out from quarantine land. “Freak” is next and comes in rolling hard. It almost has a rockabilly feel, while maintaining a true punk rock sound. Man I need to listen to more JERK!
“I Hate Guys Like You” is next and I love this track. Have you ever had a close friend screw you over or act like they are more “Scene” than you? The next song is “F#ck You Moron” and is the perfect remedy for blowing off some steam. The hardcore is strong with this track. This song is about being yourself in the eyes of the opposition.
“Just You” is a love song. This track makes me feel young again. I’d really like to see this track get played on Punk Tacos! “Mr. Metalhead” follows and is hilarious while it also shreds. Good luck getting this out of your head! We’ve come to our final track, “Radical”. When I was a teen I was known for my mix tapes. Yes I was a music nerd. Music was my gateway to expression. This love song should definitely end up on your “2020 Love Playlist”.
Overall, if you’re looking for something to help you out of this COVID hole, this record is the one. JERK!’s, “Panic Attack” is a romp of good old fashioned Ramonscore punk rock, saddled with some great hardcore skatepunk tracks. I highly recommend this record and will be adding it to the nominee list for Best Album of 2020! You can pick it up here, http://www.momsbasementrecords.bigcartel.com/
Favorite Tracks: NECK – Morrisey’s A Creep, Ratbones – Broken Again
Sounds Like: Livermores, The Follow Ups, Latte+, and Hangtime
So we are still running behind playing catch up to 2019. Of course we wouldn’t be CPRA if we were 100% fully organized. This is also a volunteer job, so sometimes life gets in the way. Life, you are a bastard! Sometimes on tour bands become good friends and jam out together constantly. Well when you’re on the road you may not have much else to do except talk music.
So when I heard NECK and Ratbones teamed up for a split. Let’s just say I couldn’t pass the chance! All 4 tracks are wickedly good. My favorites personally are NECK -“Morrisey’s A Creep”, (And that he is) and Ratbones – “Broken Again”. I miss the days of compilations of awesome punk bands and it’s nice to see even small ones returning.
Holy Shit its almost 2020 already? Where the hell have I been? Oh that’s right here writing album reviews till the cows come home. Well over 2019, CPRA has accomplished a shit ton. We wrote over 70 news, reviews and concert related items, started our own TV show, and started CPRA Skates! Don’t forget also our team up with AKA Just Miggy and The Kids Are Alright All Ages At Goosetown! On that note don’t miss the next Kids Show with the Potato Pirates on December 15, 2019, 2pm! Check out my Top 5 List of the year below!
Favorite Tracks: #YoureDead, Flip Cup, El Cucuy, and The Catfish
Sounds Like: Penske File, Proton Packs, Livermores, and Lillingtons
The Suck are set to release their new LP, “In-Cog-Neat-O” on 2/27/2019. This record is full of catchy tunes, wicked shreds, and fantastic drum work. Songs like ‘#YoureDead’, ‘Flip Cup’, and ‘El Cucuy’ have been stuck on repeat! ‘The Catfish’ is a hilarious song about a guy getting catfished and falling in love with said fish.
While not a raw as early horror punk, and more on the Nerd Punk side. This record is a blast to sing along with. It’s the perfect mix of horror and pop punk. I highly recommend picking this up on vinyl. You will also get the download codes, so you can keep that record in the plastic!
Favorite Tracks: Enjoy The Rest, What a Shame (Jani Lane), and 216
Sounds Like: Alkaline Trio, The Lillingtons,The Ramones, and Lawrence Arms
The Ponches go way back to 2005 when they formed in Turin, Italy. Sadly they have decided to call it quits, but not before releasing one kick ass single sided 12 inch Lp. The record is now out via One Chord Wonder (Italy) and Mom’s Basement Records (USA) . US listeners be sure to use the USA link to purchase.
On that note let’s check out their final release, “Ouit”. The record intros with, ‘Enjoy The Rest’. This one is fast paced. The drums and bass and perfected in this song. ‘Somerton Man’ is up next on the list. The pace slows down a little, but still rocks. This one has somewhat of a late 90s feel to it. This one is very Romanesque.
Up next is ‘They Didn’t Know What You Did Before’. This one is much darker compared to the previous songs. It sounds alot like the Lillingtons. I really dig the guitar riffs on this one. ‘What a Shame (Jani Lane)’ is up next. Not positive, but this may be a tribute to Warrant’s Jani Lane? Anyhow it’s a great tune!
‘216’ is up next with a strong melody. The harmonies on this are beautiful. ‘Autumn in Minsk’ is the last track on the record. This one has some great drums and even better melodies. Is this the last we will hear from the Ponches? Hopefully for our sakes this isn’t the last one and many more will follow. This record is a perfect way for a band to say goodbye to their fans.
Best of 2018 Albums and Ep/Lp Picks by CPRA’s Skabones
It’s been a crazy year here at CPRA. We’ve reviewed so much amazing music this year. We debuted our very first show, “Happy Skanksgiving” at Tennyson Tap. By the way our last show of the year, “Merry Punxmas” is on December 29, 2018. I know we all get a bit tired of these end of the year lists. As admins we all couldn’t possibly agree on overall favorites. So we are going to individually announce our own personal picks.
We reviewed almost 100 albums in 2018. So picking only a few was very tough on me. Happy Holiday and don’t let Krampus get ya! Be sure to pick up a CPRA shirt, patch, or sticker before Christmas! Email soon if you want one by Christmas!

Tomorrow is Election Day in the United States. Myself and many other Americans are downright pissed off at the current state of things. I would guess to say the whole world is pissed off at our President as well. These are trying times for punks. So be sure get out and vote! The nice thing about punk in general is we can have so many different types of playlist at our disposal.
I imagine punks in the US are playing the shit out of Bad Religion and the Dead Kennedys. I know I am. It’s my angry political go to music. After you vote it’s time to calm down and get back to that “Happy State”. That’s where the new LP from Jagger Holly, “Last Of The International Playboys” comes in. The album drops on November 16, 2018 via, Monster Zero, Your Mom’s Basement Records, and Outlaw Records.
This album kicks serious ass without making you feel like you wanting to break something. I tend to move towards a bit of pop punk and ska when needing a pick me up. So let’s get some quick background information on Jagger Holly. Per Jagger Holly, “Jagger Holly started in early 2015 in the USA. I have a USA line up with Stiv on guitar and Mr. Casey on Drums. We toured and recorded our first record “DJ Free Europe” in Youngstown, Ohio were we are from. I moved to Europe in late 2015 where I now live full time.
After many months went by the Euro line up was born of Matt on guitar (DeeCracks from Austria) and Marco on Drums (On My Arms from Italy). This line up covers tours in Europe, Japan and South America. And then when I’m in the USA the guys there are ready to go! “The Last Of The International Playboys” was recorded in Innsbruck Austria by Magi at the Weirdo Garage with the Euro lineup”. Damn that’s some pretty cool info! The fact that a band could switch continents for shows in a matter of hours is awesome!
So let’s check out, “Last Of The International Playboys”. This is a follow up record to, DJ Free Europe. Be sure to check out that one as well. Personally I added both to my collection after just a brief listen. The first track up is, ‘Party Tonight’. This is a great introduction for the album and my expectations. It’s a toe tapper, and very Ramones like. Next up is, ‘It Ain’t Over’, this one is super catchy and you will be seeing along soon. I can see this song hitting the major airwaves.
Track three is ‘One More Day’, this one is a bit more on the serious side. It’s still catchy as shit with a somewhat surf punk sound. I really dig the lyrics, “When there’s no drug I won’t do, to get my mind off you, I’d give it all away for one more day with you.” When a relationship is ending we often lie to ourselves to cover up the pain. It’s a coping mechanism and it sure as shit helped through a few. Next up on the track list is ‘I know I know’. This song has some great drums, bass, and vocals. It’s almost like a weird mashup between the Go Go’s and The Heartbreakers.
Next up is, ‘Let’s Hang Out At The Beach’. I love this song! Be sure to check out the video below. I love the drums on this track. This is that “Happy State” I referred to earlier. This album is shaping up to be amazing so far.
‘Tell Me Girl’, this track has some great progressions. It seems very Ramones inspired. There’s also a great little kick ass guitar solo. ‘Summers Gone’ is the next track up. There’s some great harmonies on this one. You know that feeling when summer is over. Everything is dark and just seems to suck!
‘Oh Yeah’, this track is a bit darker and a little on the heavier side. Man I feel for the writer on this track. Talk about being thrown into the “Friendzone Jail”. This track is for anyone ready to breakout. “Bree Olson” is about pornographic actress Bree Olson. This one is hilarious.
‘Paper Eyes’, is next up. This one really sounds like the Queers. This one is strong on vocals and the lyrics make it shine. You know the feeling when someone has fallen out of love with you. Their eyes just seem to give away their feelings. ‘All I Want’, now here’s another super catchy song. The lyrics again are so relatable to anyone listening. ‘I’ll Wait For You’, is the last song on the record. This one is soft, and somewhat sad. It’s great ending to a kick ass album.
Overall, Jagger Holly’s, “Last Of The International Playboys” is the album you need when you need blast of happiness to your life. Or need something you can personally relate to. They may not have reinvented the pop punk wheel, but they have masterfully perfected it. This one is just another kickass collection to the Monster Zero family. You can preorder it here, Europe link, and US.
