Chicago punks, Wilmette have recently signed with the coolest label name ever, Mutant League Records. Their new EP, “Anxious Body” hits the airwaves on 7/19/2019. This album had some serious production efforts from Seth Henderson (Knuckle Puck and Real Friends) at AGB Studios and was mastered by Kris Crummett (Sleeping With Sirens). Wilmette seems to encompass many different styles let’s check out the tracks on “Anxious”.

The EP starts with “Anxious Body”. I can already hear the production efforts in full effect. The simple intro leads into a climatic drum driven melodic tune. I really love the lyrics on this track. It has somewhat of a pop punk sound, but swings into metal like bridge. This is my favorite track on the EP.

Next up is, “Carol From HR”, who is a fan of HR? Anyone? Anyone? This track is for all musicians stuck working a 9-5 to survive. Aaron’s vocal range on this track is amazing. How he can still talk after singing this song is beyond me. The drums and guitar lead the foray as Aaron tells us the story.

“Paul Rutt”, follows seems to continue this onslaught of awesome music. I feel like anyone can really relate to this track. When your going through the darkness, sometimes it’s hard to claw back out again. The song is perfect melodic hardcore. The next song is “Where I Sleep”. This track is deep, with strong guitar strikes, and a great bass line.

The last song is, “Winter Stay (Featuring Safe Bet”. Be sure to check out the kickass video. I through personal experience have found that many people in the music scene. Suffer from Bi Polorism. It’s awful, but I think it drives some of the best music I’ve ever heard. This is a fantastic track, and an anthem for the hopeless.

“Anxious Body” By Wilmette has been composed with an articulous love for humanity,  music, and endless dose of courage and personal strength. I will not be surprised to see this band hit it in a very big way. The talent they possess seems beyond their years. If you love bands like, MCR, Thrice, and Alkaline Trio, you’re going to love Wilmette’s, “Anxious Body” EP.

Here at CPRA we are no strangers to great alternative rock. This might be a website geared toward punk, but we find ourselves constantly dipping our toes into other alternative music outlets. It helps keep us fresh, and we get to listen to some kick ass music. Plus it’s helping us build a massive tour network so when a band visits town. We know right away which bands to book them with.

Let’s take a step back and get nostalgic. When I was growing up female fronted bands were bursting onto the airwaves. The 90s were filled with great artists like Tori Amos, Garbage, Belly, Natalie Merchant, Veruca Salt and so many more. Ok I’ll admit I kinda liked Hole until I saw them live.  Hole sucks live, be sure to pass up any chance to see them fast! So recently into CPRA comes Vera Kay.

Vera Kay is set to release their debut EP, “Pink Roses” sometime this spring. Personally I’m actually a bit excited for this one to drop. Let’s check out some tracks. Be sure to listen below in the player. The first track, “Pink Roses” is a powerful relationship anthem. The guitar and drums are killer. Rufli’s vocals are quite astonishing. This ballad has a high chance of landing on the major radio waves.

“Comatose”, is up next and a bit slower. I’m not sure how this was accomplished. It could be the producers mixing. It’s almost as if there’s a giant orchestra playing in the background. Again some fantastic drums. They remind of some strange, yet primal orgasmic beat. Anyone with a heart can relate to this song.

“Paradise” is the last of these 3 songs. This song has more of punk almost industrial sound. Think the Pixies with some darker and heavier bass lines. The guitar shreds right into some amazing hooks. The lyrical flow accompanied by the vocals is simply priceless. Seriously somebody get this band up on a label!

Time to wrap up this review. These 3 great songs are just a taste of the rest of the EP. I seriously cannot wait for this one to drop. Keep an eye on this band. I have a feeling there may be some great things in store for them. CPRA will be sure to announce the day this EP is available commercially.
