We have been crazy busy here in the last few months at CPRA! We’re rebuilding our website, starting to get limited merch orders out the door, and getting back to our infamous, Album Reviews! Ok so maybe our reviews are not so infamous, haha.

Do you ever get so busy with life you forget to look for the little things in life that make you happy? Well that was me during this crazy time at CPRA. I just so happened to noticed the Scutches dropped their new LP, “Negatory” back on June 1, 2018. So please forgive if this review is a bit late to the party. Let’s check it out!

The LP starts out with that familiar Scutches sound, with “Worth Enough”. This one is drum and riff heavy, yet catchy. It talks of self worth and the struggles of raising a family. Next up is, “One True Crutch”. The drums are killer on this one.  This is my favorite on the LP! We all have that one true crutch to lean on when we really need them.

The next track up is, “Down The Drain”. The riffs on this one are strong. Yet another catch sing long in store for the listener. It seems like the song writer is struggling on the inside with a past love. Next up on the track list is “Party Girl”. I feel like anyone can relate to this song. Vincenzo’s guitar is really the stand out on this track.

“Party girl you will learn soon enough

in that your actions hold a pace and you won’t keep up

your days foreshadows your grave

and you do even notice em

party girl I hope you learn”

“Let It Last”, is up next on the list. This one has very west coast pop punk sound. There’s some kick ass guitar and drums on this song! Up next is, “Bring Me Your Love”. The one seems a bit faster than what we normally get from the Scutches and I love it! This one sounds like it’s straight off The Queers album, Punk Rock Confidential.

The last, but probably my second favorite song is, “Goodbye”. This is a beautifully well written love song and the perfect ending to a great LP. Overall, “Negatory”, builds the Scutches already well established list of great albums. It almost seems like they are always on that cusp of hitting the pops, and it won’t surprise me if this is the album that gets them there. You can pick up the new LP here, https://somethingtodorecords.bandcamp.com/album/negatory . Want another review? Be sure check out our thoughts on their last album, “Glass House”.
